The Space
Welcome to Climbing Bear, a cozy Southwestern-style retreat nestled in the breathtaking Rocky Mountains of Angel Fire, New Mexico. With four bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, this mountain sanctuary is designed for unforgettable vacations year-round. Conveniently located between Angel Fire Resort, the Country Club, and Monte Verde Lake, Climbing Bear offers easy access to outdoor adventures for all seasons. Just a short eight-minute drive (three miles) to the slopes and a four-minute drive (one mile) to the Country Club and lake, Climbing Bear ensures you’re never far from the action. While not a ski-in/ski-out, the cabin provides hassle-free access to the resort, with shuttle services available from the parking lot to the ski lift. During ski season, our roads and driveway are diligently plowed for your safety and convenience. A 4WD vehicle is recommended year-round and required in winter for accessing the cabin.

Please note, Climbing Bear does not offer central heating or cooling but provides electric and propane heaters for added warmth. In warmer weather, open the windows, turn on the fans, and savor the crisp mountain air from the comfort of your own cabin retreat. We maintain a pet-free environment to ensure the comfort and health of all our guests.

Throughout ski season, our roads and driveway are meticulously plowed for easy access. While we’re not a ski-in/ski-out property, Climbing Bear is conveniently situated only three miles from the base area of Angel Fire Resort. Shuttle services from the resort’s parking lot to the ski lift are readily available.
Hiking and Biking Information

While a 4WD vehicle isn’t necessary during this time, it’s still recommended for easy exploration. Rest assured, Climbing Bear prioritizes guest safety and peace of mind with its comprehensive security measures. Our exterior security camera, mounted near the garage door and facing the driveway, is motion-activated and records video for added security. It’s important to note that the camera does not intrude on any interior spaces, ensuring your privacy during your stay.
Getting Around
Public transportation options to Angel Fire from the airports in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos have been accessible since July 2019, offering convenient routes for travelers. Additionally, popular ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are readily available for seamless transportation around the area.
During the winter months, we advise travelers to consider renting a 4WD vehicle for added safety and peace of mind, especially when navigating snowy or icy roads. While not essential during the summer, a 4WD vehicle is still recommended to comfortably explore the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains.
For guests staying at Angel Fire Resort, complimentary shuttle services are provided from the resort’s parking lot to the ski lift, ensuring easy access to the slopes and hassle-free transportation during your stay. There is public parking at the drop-in/base area. We are not a proper ski-in/ski-out, but Climbing Bear is only three miles from the base area of Angel Fire Resort. Angel Fire Resort provides a shuttle from their parking lot to the ski lift. All roads and our driveway are plowed regularly throughout ski season.
